About the DAC

why we started

The Delta Action Coalition was started by a group of teachers initially brought together by a desire to become more involved in the communities they worked in. While each teacher pursued his or her individual projects and passions, the DAC united these efforts and signified a larger scale effort to make a real positive impact. Though the projects affiliated with the DAC vary in purpose and content, they are united by some general goals:

· to inspire and broaden the perspectives of students in the Mississippi Delta

· to make both the teachers initiating programs and the students involved with programs more active and responsible members of the community

·to create a network of resources for other teachers and make it easier for other teachers and community members to initiate community-oriented programs where they live and work
